“Girls Gone Wild” creator sentenced to anger management

Joe Francis, the famous and infamous creator of the long-running “Girls Gone Wild” video series, has been ordered to undergo anger management classes and psychological counseling after being found guilty of assaulting three women.

The Los Angeles Times reports that the incident occurred on January 29, 2011, when three women met Francis in the Supper Club in Hollywood while celebrating a college graduation. When the club closed for the night, Francis took one of the women into his limo, with the other two following, believing the man was giving them a ride to their car. However, Francis’ driver and bodyguard did not allow them to leave the vehicle.

Francis took the trio to his home, where a fight broke out when he attempted to pull one of the women away from the other two, grabbing her by the throat and hair and proceeding to slam her head into the floor three or four times. When the women fled the house, they were told a taxi would not be called and paid for them if they told the police about the altercation. The three proceeded to contact the LAPD anyway while en route in their cab.

According to the LA Times, Francis was convicted on five charges of assault and false imprisonment. A judge sentenced him on Tuesday, August 27, to 270 days of prison and three years of probation, including court ordered anger management.

“Whether a celebrity or not, you will be held accountable for your misdeeds,” the then-city attorney told Francis.
