How Many Hours of Anger Management Does the Court Require?

Court orders most commonly require 4, 8, 12, 16, 24, 26, or 52 hours of anger management. The exact number is written on your court paperwork or your probation conditions. If your order does not state a number, your probation officer or attorney decides it. Enrolling in a program shorter than your order requires is the most common reason certificates get rejected.

Our live Zoom classes are offered at 4 and 8 hours. If your requirement is longer than that, our self-paced online courses cover the remaining lengths.

Hours your order requiresLive Zoom optionSelf-paced option
4 hours 4-Hour Live Zoom Class — $149 Available
8 hours 8-Hour Live Zoom Class — $249 Available
12, 16, 24, 26, or 52 hours Not currently offered live Self-paced only
Order does not specify Ask your probation officer, case manager, or attorney to confirm the required hours in writing before you enrol. Contact us and we will help you interpret the paperwork. Contact us and we will help you read the paperwork.

Always enrol in a program equal to or greater than your order requires. A judge can reject a certificate for fewer hours and require you to start over at your own expense.

Are Live Zoom Anger Management Classes Court-Approved?

Yes. Courts, probation departments, parole boards, and employers across the United States accept Mastering Anger certificates of completion. Acceptance is decided by the jurisdiction that issued your order, not by the provider, so confirm the required hours and any format restrictions before you enrol. If your certificate is rejected, we refund your full course fee with proof of rejection.

Live sessions satisfy requirements that self-paced courses cannot. When an order says “attend,” “participate in a group,” or “instructor-led,” a live Zoom class documents scheduled attendance with a named, licensed clinician. A recorded course produces a completion record but no attendance record.

We do not claim approval in every jurisdiction, because nobody honestly can. What we do is maintain a list of prior approvals, back procedure with documentation, and refund in full if the certificate is refused. One phone call to your probation officer confirms this and can save the entire course fee.

What to confirm before you enroll

  1. The number of hours required. Get it in writing and keep a copy.
  2. Whether online delivery is accepted. Ask specifically about live video sessions, not just “online.”
  3. Whether the provider must be on an approved list. If so, request the list.
  4. Your deadline. Work backward from your next hearing and leave room for a missed session.

Ask by email or text rather than over the phone. A written answer is what protects you if the requirement is questioned later.

What Are Zoom Anger Management Classes?

Zoom anger management classes are live, instructor-led education sessions delivered by video conference. A licensed clinician teaches a small group in real time, covering anger triggers, coping skills, and communication. Participants attend on scheduled dates rather than working through recorded modules alone, and receive a certificate of completion afterward.

Most programs that ask for “Zoom anger management classes” are self-paced courses that mention Zoom but never put you in a room with an instructor. Some courts and employers specifically require attendance-based or instructor-led participation, and a self-paced certificate will not satisfy that order.

Mastering Anger is accredited by the North Carolina Board of Licensed Professional Counselors as a counseling center. The curriculum was developed by Dr. Carlos Todd, PhD, LCMHC (North Carolina License #NC5046), and applies cognitive behavioral therapy techniques – see our guide to the anger iceberg for a sense of the material.

What every live session covers

  • How anger works in the body and the brain
  • Identifying triggers and early warning signs
  • Cognitive restructuring
  • Relaxation and de-escalation, practiced live
  • Assertive communication
  • Conflict resolution and repair
  • Relapse prevention planning

Is a Live Zoom Class Better Than a Self-Paced Course for Court?

Mastering Anger offers both formats, so this is a fit guide, not a sales pitch.

A live Zoom class is better when your order requires attendance, group participation, or instructor-led instruction. A self-paced course is better when your deadline is short, your order requires more hours than we offer live, or a fixed Sunday morning session is impossible. Both produce a certificate of completion.

Inside the Room

What Happens in a Live Zoom Anger Management Session?

You join the Zoom room, the clinician welcomes the group and raises the ground rules, and the class alternates between short teaching segments, guided discussion, and skill practice. Sessions are structured, not open-ended venting. You participate, and you leave with a written plan you built during class.

Joining

The room opens fifteen minutes before the 9:00 AM start. Use it to test your camera and microphone. That quarter hour exists so nobody loses credit over an audio setting.

Opening

Attendance and check-in, the ground rules for the group, and a brief orientation to the session. Nobody is asked to explain why they are there.

Teaching and discussion

Short teaching segments on triggers, the anger cycle, and communication, each opening into guided discussion. Questions are welcome, and the material is adapted to the people in the room.

Skill practice

You practise techniques live – timed breathing, rehearsing an assertive sentence, mapping a recent conflict backward to its trigger.

Assessment

Your anger assessment is completed online before your first session, so class time stays on teaching and practice rather than paperwork.

Closing

The clinician restates the material, confirms attendance, and explains what happens next with your certificate.

Participant images are stand-ins; real classes are never photographed or shared.

Is the group confidential?

Yes. What is discussed in a session stays in the session. Class sizes are capped at 15 and sessions are never recorded – there is no video file of your class and nothing that can be replayed or shared later.

Ground rules are restated at the start of every session, so nobody is guessing at expectations. You are never required to disclose details you would rather keep private, and plenty of participants spend a first session mostly listening. That is a normal way to start.

Class Schedule and How to Join a Session

Enrollment is open - no waitlist and no cohort start date to wait for.

Live sessions start at 9:00 AM Eastern Time, with the Zoom room opening at 8:45 AM for check-in. There is no fixed weekly day – you choose an available session date when you book. Register by at least the Friday before your chosen session. All times are Eastern, as our classes are run from North Carolina.

ProgramLive sessionsDay & timeWeeks to complete
4-Hour Program 2 sessions, 2 hours each Sundays, 9:00–11:00 AM EST 2 weeks
8-Hour Program 4 sessions, 2 hours each Sundays, 9:00–11:00 AM EST 4 weeks

Getting your link

Your Zoom link and workbook arrive by email immediately after successful payment, along with your anger assessment.

Arriving on time

Arriving more than 15 minutes late means no credit for that session. Treat 8:45 as your start time, not 9:00.

If you miss a session

You may transfer your registration to the next available session one time, at no extra charge. Contact us as soon as you know.

Should I take the 4-hour or the 8-hour class?

Take the length your court order or employer requires — the number is on your paperwork. If you are enrolling voluntarily, the 4-hour program covers the core skills and the 8-hour adds substantially more discussion and practice time.

Do not guess. Enrolling in 4 hours against an 8-hour order means paying twice and missing your deadline. If your paperwork is unclear, send it to us and we will help you read it.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many hours of anger management does the court usually require?

Court orders commonly require 4, 8, 12, 16, 24, 26, or 52 hours. The number is stated on your court paperwork or probation conditions. If no number is given, your probation officer or attorney determines it. Always enroll in a program equal to or longer than your order requires, because a judge can reject a shorter certificate.

How much does a live Zoom anger management class cost?

The 4-hour program is $149 and the 8-hour program is $249. Both include live instructor-led sessions, your enrolment letter, workbook, anger assessment, attendance verification, and certificate of completion. There are no hidden fees.

Is this program accepted by courts and probation officers?

Is a live Zoom class better than a self-paced course for court?

A live class is better when your order requires attendance, participation, or instructor-led instruction, because it documents scheduled attendance with a named clinician. A self-paced course is better for tight deadlines or hour requirements longer than 8 hours.

What time do classes start, and in which time zone?

Sessions begin at 9:00 AM Eastern Time and the room opens at 8:45 AM. All times are Eastern, as our classes run from North Carolina — that is 8:00 AM Central, 7:00 AM Mountain, and 6:00 AM Pacific. Check your local start time before booking.

How far in advance do I need to book?

Register at least the Friday before your chosen session. Your Zoom link, workbook, and anger assessment are emailed immediately after payment, so booking earlier gives you time to complete the assessment beforehand.

Do I need my camera on during class?

Yes. Your camera must be on for the full session so attendance can be verified. This is what allows us to certify your hours to a court, probation officer, or employer, so it is not optional.

Are sessions recorded?

No. Sessions are never recorded. There is no video file of your class and nothing that can be replayed or shared later. Confidentiality is set as a ground rule at the start of every session.

How many people are in a class?

Each session is capped at 15 participants, which keeps the group small enough for real discussion and skill practice, and small enough for confidentiality expectations to be realistic.

What happens if I join late?

Participants arriving more than 15 minutes late do not receive credit for that session. The room opens at 8:45 AM so you can resolve any audio or camera issue before the 9:00 AM start. Treat 8:45 as your arrival time.

What if I miss a session?

Participants who miss a scheduled session may transfer their registration to the next available session one time.

Can I take these classes from any state?

Yes. Our online programs are available nationwide. Court, probation, employer, and other referring-agency requirements vary, so you are responsible for confirming the program meets your specific requirement before enrolling. Remember that classes run on Eastern Time.

Is this therapy or education?

This is anger management education, not psychotherapy. Classes teach skills in a group setting and are led by a licensed counselor, but they are not a substitute for individual therapy or treatment for a diagnosed mental health condition. Many people do both.

Is it covered by insurance?

No. Our anger management classes are educational programs and are not billed to insurance. The displayed price is the full cost, with no additional fees.

What device do I need?

Any device that runs Zoom with a working camera and microphone – laptop, desktop, tablet, or smartphone. You also need a stable internet connection and a private space where you will not be overheard. Zoom is free for participants.

Ready to Take Control of Your Anger?
