Why a Live Group Instead of a Individual Course

A self-paced video course teaches you the material. A live group gives you something a video can’t: other people. You hear how someone else describes their triggers, you practice a response out loud instead of just reading about it, and you get feedback in real time from a licensed clinician and the group, not just a quiz at the end of a module.

Group-based anger management is a well-established format in clinical practice – participants learn from each other’s experiences, get real-time feedback, and build accountability that’s harder to fake in a room (even a virtual one) than in a video you can leave playing in the background.

Groups are kept small enough for real discussion, and every session is led by a licensed clinician, not a recorded narrator or a lay facilitator.

Why a Live Group Instead of a Individual Course

What to Expect in Your First Group Session

You don’t have to share anything you’re not ready to share. Most people spend their first session mostly listening, and that’s a normal way to start. The clinician opens with ground rules -confidentiality, respect, no interrupting – restated at the start of every session, so nobody is guessing at expectations.

From there, the group moves between short teaching segments and guided discussion. You’ll practice a skill out loud – naming a trigger, rehearsing an assertive sentence – with the group, not alone at a keyboard.

What’s said in the group stays in the group. Sessions are never recorded, and groups are kept small enough that the discussion stays personal.

Who a Group Format Is Right For

You Want Real Discussion, Not a Lecture

You learn better by talking it through than by clicking "next" on a video module.

You're Motivated by Accountability

Showing up to a live group with other people creates a kind of follow-through a self-paced course doesn't.

You Learn From Other People's Experiences

Hearing how someone else handles a trigger you recognize is often more useful than another slide of theory.

You're Comfortable in a Small, Confidential Group

Groups are capped in size, ground rules are set every session, and nothing is recorded.

You Have a Deadline

Court date, probation check-in, or an employer's timeline - enrollment is open with no waitlist, so you can start this Sunday.

What Our Clients Say

★★★★★

"I didn't expect to get much out of hearing other people's stories, but that ended up being the most useful part. I wasn't the only one dealing with this."

— J.M.
★★★★★

"Being in a small group instead of watching a video by myself made me actually pay attention and practice the skills instead of zoning out."

— R.T.
★★★★★

"I was nervous about talking in front of strangers. Nobody pushed me to share before I was ready, and by the second session I actually wanted to."

— A.S.

Frequently Asked Questions

What's the difference between an anger management group and one-on-one counseling?

A group class is live, instructor-led, and includes discussion with other participants working through similar issues - useful for peer accountability and cost. One-on-one coaching is private, scheduled individually, and better suited to highly confidential situations, such as our anger management coaching for executives and anger management coaching for physicians. Both are led by a licensed clinician and both produce a certificate of completion.

Is this program accepted by courts and probation officers?

Yes. Courts, probation departments, parole boards, and employers across the United States accept Mastering Anger certificates of completion. Acceptance is decided by the jurisdiction that issued your order, not by the provider, so confirm the required hours and any format restrictions before you enrol. If your certificate is rejected, we refund your full course fee with proof of rejection.

What if I miss a session?

Participants who miss a scheduled session may transfer their registration to the next available session one time.

Do I have to share personal details with the group?

No. You're never required to disclose more than you're comfortable with. Many people listen mostly during their first session. Ground rules - confidentiality and respect - are restated at the start of every session.

Will I be grouped with strangers?

Yes, typically. Groups are made up of people from different situations - court-ordered, employer-referred, or personal development - meeting at the same scheduled time. Sessions are never recorded, and what's discussed stays in the group.

Can my partner or a family member join the same group as me?

Contact us before enrolling if you'd like to attend with someone else, so we can place you in the same scheduled session together.

How do I get my anger management certificate?

You'll receive a certificate of completion, along with attendance verification, after finishing your live group sessions.

Do I need a referral to join a group?

No. Enrollment is open to anyone, whether you're attending for court, probation, an employer, or personal development.

What if I miss a scheduled session?

You may transfer your registration to the next available session one time, at no extra charge. Contact us as soon as you know you'll miss it.

How is the 4-hour program scheduled?

The 4-hour program is split across 2 live sessions, 2 hours each. Sessions run on Sundays and continue weekly until your program is complete, with a short 15-minute break between sessions.

Are the sessions in-person or online?

All group sessions are live and virtual - hosted over Zoom, not in person. This means you can join from anywhere in the country; sessions are not tied to a physical location.
