3 ways to apply anger management at work

It’s no big mystery that people can and do get stressed out at work. Whether it’s trying to meet a deadline or having to deal with a difficult boss, there are plenty of issues that come up in the workplace that can drive people to anger. But allowing your temperĀ to take over is unhealthy and unprofessional and can very well result in you losing that job. To avoid this, Business News Daily hasĀ some helpful tipsĀ on anger management at work.

1.Ā Recognize when you’re getting angry.Ā It’s all too easy to quickly jump from mild irritation to full-blown rage. By realizing when you’re getting angry, and identifying the who, what, why and how behindĀ it, you will learn how to prevent yourself from yelling at co-workers.

2.Ā Be aware of envy.Ā If you feel like someone else at work is getting preferential treatment, or a co-worker received a raise or a promotion that you were hoping for, you could become envious, which can quickly lead to anger. Likewise, if someone else is jealousĀ of how you’re treated at work, you may become suspicious of their feelings, which could lead to hostility. If you find yourself feeling this way, take stock of what makes you a valuable worker and recognize that others may see you as having an advantage over them.

3.Ā Communicate clearly and empathetically.Ā By engaging your co-workers with directĀ eye contact and genuine interest in what they have to say, you make it known that you want to work together, not against each other. The more you can build cooperation with your co-workers, the more your potential for anger towards them will diminish.

These are just a few pieces of advice and only scratch the surface of effective anger management. If you feel angry in the workplace, enroll in the onlineĀ anger management classĀ offered byĀ Conflict Coaching and Consulting.
