Retired baseball player Milton Bradley sentenced to anger management classes
Milton Bradley is a retired professional baseball player, who played for over a half dozen Major League Baseball (MLB) teams including the Los Angeles Dodgers and Seattle Mariners. He was also infamousĀ for having an incredible temper problem, a personal vice that exploded with bigger consequences when he was convicted last month for assaulting his wife. On Tuesday, July 2, a Los Angeles County judge sentenced Bradley to two and a half years in county jail, followed by five years of probation includingĀ anger management classes.
Local news source The Daily Bulletin reports that the charges stemmed fromĀ four separate incidents of domestic abuseĀ in 2011 and 2012, when Bradley’s wife, Monique, asked him to stop smoking marijuana in front of their kids. In response, Bradley choked Monique, kicked her in the ribs and threatened to beat her with a baseball bat. On one occasion he threatened her with a knife, claiming he would kill her “before you divorce me.”
Although Bradley denied hurting anyone, he did admit to having an anger problem.
The former baseball player’s temper issues are well known, with Seattle Times columnist Jerry BrewerĀ characterizing Bradley’s angeras “a malignancy” that held him back from greater things, and instead left him “trapped in his own destructive mind.”
Bradley was found guilty of nine misdemeanor charges, including spousal battery and assault with a deadly weapon. In addition to jail time and probation, he was also sentenced to 400 hours of community service. Half of that time will be spent on coaching Little League players, “because the judge said it saddenedĀ him that Bradley […] never even played baseball with his own two sons.”
