Why am I always so angry?
It’s only natural to experience anger from time to time. In fact, this emotion is a part of our biological makeup. After all, the surge of adrenaline that accompanies this reaction has essentially helped mankind survive since we first walked the earth – giving us the strength to overcome predators and protect our families from harm.
However, in this day and age, those who cannot identify and manage this emotion may find that it puts undue strain on their professional and personal relationships, and can even lead to trouble with the law. Why are some people so prone to angry outbursts, while others seem so in control of their emotions?
The American Psychological Association (APA) has a few theories.
“One cause may be genetic or physiological: There is evidence that some children are born irritable, touchy, and easily angered […] Another may be sociocultural. Anger is often regarded as negative; we’re taught that it’s all right to express […] other emotions but not to express anger. As a result, we don’t learn how to handle it or channel it constructively,” the APA states in a pamphlet on this often overlooked sentiment.
If you are already predisposed to such episodes, other aspects of your lifestyle – such as a stressful career or financial troubles – can exacerbate this issue. Just because you’ve always been a bit hot-headed, doesn’t mean you can’t learn to keep these volatile emotions in check. By taking anger management classes, you can develop new techniques to implement when you feel agitated. At Conflict Coaching & Consulting, we offer a wide range of online anger management courses that you can complete discreetly, and at your own pace.
