Gregg Alan Harvey, a 43-year-old resident of Montgomery County in suburban Philadelphia, was sentenced last Wednesday, May 29, for assaulting his girlfriend last year. Harvey pleaded guilty to a simple assault misdemeanor and summary charge of harassment. The plea agreement had him\u00a0receive 20 months of probation. Additionally, Montgomery County Court Judge Steve O’Neill ordered Harvey to complete an\u00a0anger management course<\/a>\u00a0with an approved psychologist, as well as a domestic violence counseling program.<\/p>\n

The initial incident occurred on\u00a0June 16,\u00a02012, when Harvey shoved his girlfriend and “physically forced her down a flight of stairs causing her to fall and sustain injuries,”\u00a0according to the arrest affidavit<\/a>\u00a0police filed at the time. His plea of guilty to the assault charge confirms Harvey’s intent to harm her at the time.<\/p>\n

On June 17, the pair — who, according to court documents, had been dating for eight months by this time — reportedly spent most of the day arguing, either at Harvey’s house or at a New Hanover restaurant. The following day, local police responded to an early morning call about a domestic argument, where they found the woman “visibly upset” and distraught over Harvey’s “attempts to control every aspect of her life,” according to the same affidavit. Police noted contusions to the woman’s hips, lower and upper legs, and lower back and arms as a result of the June 16 assault.<\/p>\n

In addition to the court supervision and mandated anger management counseling, Harvey has also been ordered to pay $1,200 in restitution to the victim and cut off all contact with her and her family.<\/p>\n
