{"id":8084,"date":"2017-12-25T16:30:56","date_gmt":"2017-12-25T21:30:56","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/host1.thenewmasteringanger.com\/?p=8084"},"modified":"2022-06-15T04:57:54","modified_gmt":"2022-06-15T08:57:54","slug":"man-taking-anger-management-classes-after-sentenced-for-attempted-murder","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/masteringanger.com\/staging\/blog\/man-taking-anger-management-classes-after-sentenced-for-attempted-murder\/","title":{"rendered":"Man taking anger management classes after sentenced for attempted murder"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>An Aloha, Oregon man is voluntarily taking\u00a0<a class=\"dnautolink\" href=\"https:\/\/masteringanger.com\/staging\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\">anger management classes<\/a>\u00a0after being\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.kptv.com\/story\/22462683\/man-sentenced-for-kidnapping-trying-to-kill-girlfriend\">sentenced to 13 years in prison<\/a>\u00a0for a number of charges filed by his girlfriend, including attempted aggravated murder, assault, kidnapping and burglary.<\/p>\n<p>The incident first occurred\u00a0on January 10, when Jose Ponce-Guitron\u00a0broke into the apartment of his then-girlfriend Maria Morales, shattering her glass sliding door open with a hammer and attacking her with a box cutter. Graphic photos shown in court reveal the severity of the wounds Ponce-Guitron inflicted on her throat, clearly demonstrating his intent to kill her.<\/p>\n<p>According to the prosecution, Ponce-Guitron was a jealous boyfriend whose beliefs that Morales was cheating on him fueled not only this attack but several other prior assaults.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This is a case he planned out and thought about for days before he actually did it, and that makes it truly evil in my mind,&#8221; remarked Bracken McKey, a senior deputy district attorney for Washington County.<\/p>\n<p>For his part, Ponce-Guitron made no defense of his actions, and accepted sentencing through a plea agreement.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;That is why he&#8217;s here today. He didn&#8217;t want to drag her through a trial, he didn&#8217;t want to drag anyone through a trial,&#8221; commented Wendy Leik, Ponce-Guitron&#8217;s appointed\u00a0public defender. &#8220;He was ready for everybody to begin the healing process.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Ponce-Guitron will not be eligible for any early release programs.<\/p>\n<p>Although not part of his plea deal, he is, according to his attorney, taking anger management classes to work on &#8220;becoming a better person.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>While choosing to receive counseling on an anger problem is a good step, it&#8217;s a decision that should be made before tempers explode into violence.
