{"id":8078,"date":"2017-12-25T16:24:07","date_gmt":"2017-12-25T21:24:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/host1.thenewmasteringanger.com\/?p=8078"},"modified":"2022-06-15T04:58:44","modified_gmt":"2022-06-15T08:58:44","slug":"study-talking-it-out-can-reduce-anger","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/masteringanger.com\/staging\/blog\/study-talking-it-out-can-reduce-anger\/","title":{"rendered":"Study: Talking it out can reduce anger"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A new study, published on June 5 in the Public Library of Science&#8217;s open access journal\u00a0<em>PLOS ONE<\/em>, has revealed that communicating\u00a0your feelings &#8211; such as anger &#8211;\u00a0may\u00a0affect the body&#8217;s physiological response to produce that emotion in the first place. In other words, expressing the fact that you&#8217;re feeling angry would then diminish your body&#8217;s impulse to feel or act angry in that situation.<\/p>\n<p>The study\u00a0involved having participants complete a difficult math assignment in the presence\u00a0of evaluators who were trained to give negative feedback to the test-taking individuals. This\u00a0was designed to incite feelings of anger in some and shame in others. Upon completion, the participants were either given a questionnaire to assess\u00a0how angry or embarrassed they were feeling or they were given a set of more neutral questions that did not explicitly address\u00a0emotional\u00a0sentiments.<\/p>\n<p>Those who completed\u00a0the questionnaire with responses about how they were feeling were found to have smaller increases in heart rate\u00a0than those who answered the neutral questions.
