Chamique Holdsclaw, a retired professional women’s basketball player and Olympic gold medalist, was sentenced to\u00a0anger management classes<\/a>\u00a0and three years of probation after she plead guilty on Friday, June 14 to charges of aggravated assault, possession of a firearm and criminal damage. According to prosecutors,\u00a0Holdsclaw\u00a0shot another player’s car<\/a>\u00a0and smashed its windows with a baseball bat.<\/p>\n

The other player involved was Jennifer Lacy, a member of the Tulsa Shock Women’s National Basketball Association team and an ex-girlfriend of Holdsclaw’s, the Chicago Tribune reports. The incident occurred in November 2012, when Lacy was driving through Atlanta and noticed Holdsclaw\u00a0in the car behind her. When she pulled over, Holdsclaw\u00a0attacked Lacy’s vehicle with a bat and fired a gun at the car while Lacy was still inside. Despite the gunshot and shattered windows, Lacy was not injured, according to the Fulton County District Attorney’s Office.<\/p>\n

The 35-year-old Holdsclaw\u00a0was drafted by the Washington Mystics in 1999 and played for the WNBA\u00a0until her retirement in 2010. During her tenure with the league, she played for the U.S. women’s basketball team at the 2000 Olympics in Sydney, where she won a gold medal.<\/p>\n

Holdsclaw’s\u00a0punishment will include a $3,000 fine and 120 hours of public service in which she will have to speak to kids “about depression, overcoming adversity and the consequences of one’s actions,” according to a press release from the prosecutor’s office.<\/p>\n
