A Florida teenager accepted a plea deal on Thursday, July 11, to enroll in anger management classes<\/a> after attacking a classmate on a school bus.<\/p>\n

As NBC News reports, the incident began on February 1, at Mitchell High School in New Port Richey, Florida. On that day, 16-year-old Chase Cristia had been defending another student from a group of bullies, including 17-year-old Dominique Thorne. When Thorne and the others threatened to beat Cristia at school, she reported them to a school administrator, though this did nothing to protect Cristia on the bus ride home.<\/p>\n

On the school bus, Thorne attacked Cristia, while one of her friends filmed the beating<\/a> with her cell phone.<\/p>\n

“My bruises have healed, but the mental scars will only improve with time,” Cristia wrote in a statement<\/a>, too nervous to testify in front of the judge. “What these girls did to me was unprovoked and brutal. If the physical part of this wasn’t bad enough, they only made it worse by posting it all over the Internet.”<\/p>\n

Cristia is still recovering from emotional trauma, her mother told the source, and has gone through extensive therapy for post traumatic stress disorder.<\/p>\n

Thorne was charged with a first-degree misdemeanor battery and sentenced to 270 days of probation. The order includes a strict 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. curfew, blocked access to social media, an apology letter to Cristia and court ordered anger management<\/a>. She must also pay Cristia $2,900 in restitution.<\/p>\n
