Man charged with hate crime to attend anger management classes

Anger management issues are a very real and serious problem for both kids and adults. The potential for anger to erupt into violence increases greatly when alcohol is involved.

Back in February, a large-scale fight broke out in the Midland Street bar district of Bay City, Michigan when three men launched a flurry of racial epithets at a group of men of Arab descent. The slurs quickly evolved into a brawl that ended when Bay City police arrived on the scene and arrested the three men, two of whom were charged with assault and ethnic intimidation and the third being charged with assault and criminal sexual conduct.

On Thursday, May 22, one of the two men that had been charged with committing a hate crime was sentenced by a judge to a year of probation, a punishment that includes random alcohol tests, over $1,500 in fines and a 12-week anger management course. The defendant had pleaded no contest to the aggravated assault misdemeanor in exchange for a dismissal of the ethnic intimidation felonies and other misdemeanors.

Alcohol and anger is a deadly combination and can often lead to danger for everyone involved. If you have issues handling your anger, especially when drinking alcohol, or if you are required to complete court ordered anger management, consider taking one of the online anger management courses that we offer at Conflicting Coaching & Consulting
